Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

An inexpensive way to boost your cat’s immune system so they can ward off diseases.

Having a kitten or cat means you have full responsibility for their safety. Vaccines provide a healthy foundation so you can continue to build a special bond with your cat. At our hospital, we offer all the important vaccines your kitten or cat will need. Our veterinarians will happily provide more information and answer any questions you may have.

How often should kittens/cats be vaccinated?

As a kitten your pet will need more frequent vaccinations. We begin the kitten series when they are 8-weeks-old, then administer other vaccines when they are 12 and 16-weeks-old. Kittens are usually vaccinated against Rabies, feline herpes, Calicivirus, and feline distemper.

Once fully vaccinated as kittens, adult cats will need yearly boosters. Based on your cat's lifestyle, health needs, and environment the veterinarian may recommend they get boosters every 1 to 3 years.

What happens if I don't vaccinate my kitten or cat?

Unvaccinated cats and kittens have a higher risk of catching deadly diseases. Since their immune systems aren't strong enough to fight off viruses they will experience severe symptoms that can sometimes lead to death. They are at risk of developing feline leukemia (which causes cancer), rabies (can spread to humans), feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), and many more diseases which can spread easily and be expensive to treat. To schedule your kitten or cat's vaccinations, reach out to us at 705-431-5570.

Is vaccination necessary for indoor cats?

Yes, indoor kittens and cats need to be vaccinated. Although they are less exposed to viruses there is still a possibility of them getting sick. They can get viruses from parasites that enter the home, from other animals they interact with, and finally there is no guarantee they won't go outside. Cats can be daring and venture outside where they are exposed to even more harm. It is better to prevent diseases than to treat them.
